An individual is said to be suffering from binge eating when he or she experiences at least three of the following symptoms:

Serious health effects of binge eating disorder
Binge eating is a serious disorder which can have a serious impact on the health of an individual. Eating disorders are complex disorders which are associated with serious mental and physical illnesses that are characterized by abnormal eating behaviors and psychological disturbances surrounding shape and weight.
The term binge is a negative term and whenever one gets involved in the binge of anything, it has a negative effect on the overall well being of an individual. Some of the health problems associated with binge eating are as follows:
Obesity is one of the most common diseases associated with binge eating disorder. Obesity is a metabolic disorder which is characterized by the accumulation of excessive fat in the body. Obesity is a condition which is believed to exist when there is an imbalance between calorie consumption and energy expenditure. Binge eating disorder is strongly associated with high-calorie consumption.
Most often, people who suffer from binge eating disorder are obese or overweight. Eating a large amount of food after every interval indicates high-calorie intake and also, it has been observed that people having binge eating disorder are less associated with physical activities. Most often they adopt sedentary behavior, which makes them prone to develop obesity. Sedentary behavior is strongly associated with an increased risk of developing obesity. Also, the benign eating disorder becomes more prevalent as the degree of obesity increases.
2. Diabetes mellitus
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease which has a high prevalence rate. Millions of people across the world are living with diabetes mellitus and each year, the number of diagnosed cases of diabetes mellitus is increasing. Diabetes mellitus is a disease which is characterized by hyperglycemia, resulting from impaired insulin secretion, impaired insulin action, or both. In other terms, it occurs when the glucose level in the blood becomes too high than the normal level.
The risk of developing diabetes mellitus increases in people who suffer from binge eating disorder. Not only binge eating disorder but other eating disorders as well. Studies claim that there is a strong relationship between eating disorders and diabetes mellitus. Binge eating disorder leads to an impairment of metabolic control.
Also, the risk of developing diabetes mellitus is also associated with obesity and obesity is one of the most common side effects of binge eating. Binge eating disorder has been closely correlated with emotional eating, increased hunger, and consequently a higher intake of energy and fat.
3. High blood pressure
Blood pressure is the force or pressure of blood on the walls of the arteries. When this pressure on the walls of arteries becomes higher than normal level, it is defined as high blood pressure or hypertension. High blood pressure is a serious problem which significantly increases the risk of developing heart disease. It is known as a silent killer because it does have an early warning sign and does not cause any symptom until it becomes serious. It can have an adverse effect on the health of an individual.
Binge eating also contributes to an increased risk of high blood pressure and high abdominal fat due to excessive eating is the main cause of it.
4. High blood cholesterol
Excessive fat in the body is associated with an increase in the level of cholesterol. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance which is important for the body, but when its level increases than the required amount, it starts to cause health problems. Heart disease is a common side effect of high blood cholesterol level. We can directly say that binge eating is one of the risk factors for the development of heart disease.
Gallstone is a disease which occurs when there is a development of hard particles in the gallbladder. The gallbladder is located in the upper right of the abdomen. Gallstone occurs when there is the imbalance in the substance that make up bile. When bile contains too much cholesterol, the formation of a gallstone may occur.
Multiple research has stated that binge eating might lead to the development of gallstone and one of the reasons for this correlation is the relationship between obesity and binge eating. People who are obese are at high risk of gallstone and this is because obesity increases the amount of cholesterol in the bile which leads to stone formation.
