Pediatric dentists develop techniques, procedure, and skills that are common with other specialists but they also adapt different techniques that are required for children, infants, and adolescents. The response to oral health care is complex and are determined by various factors. A dentist who treats children need to accurately assess the developmental level of the child and need to figure out a child’s reaction to care. Pediatric dentists are specially trained to handle the problems related to children. Minimum 24 months of the advanced education program by the Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association is required to become a pediatric dental specialist.
Endodontics which is also known as endodontology is a dental speciality that is concerned with the treatment of dental pulp. Endodontics are the dentists who are specialized and experienced in endodontic treatment, microsurgery and dental emergency. Many people every year with disease pulp and pediatric tissue are saved through endodontic treatment. Endodontic treatment is also known as root canal therapy and the main purpose of this treatment is to clean and shape the root canal system by removing the pathological pulp. Endodontic treatment is one of the most common procedure and whenever a dental pulp is injured, an endodontic treatment is required.
Periodontology is a speciality of dentistry in which the dentists studies about the supporting structure of the teeth and treats the patients that are affected by the diseases related to it or which affects them. Those who practice this speciality is known as a periodontist. A periodontist is a dentist who has attained an advanced knowledge and specialized training in the field of periodontics. It evaluates, diagnoses and helps in maintaining the health of gums and bones. Consulting a periodontist for the gum and bone problems allows the in-depth care of it. Orthodontics is a speciality area of the dentistry that is concerned with the conditions that require movement or the correction of teeth. An orthodontist is a specialist who deals with the malpositioned teeth and the jaws. A specialist in this field possesses an advanced knowledge of orthodontic diagnosis, surgical orthodontic, the biology of the tooth movement, and the growth and development of tooth movement. Untreated malocclusion can lead to many problems such as dental caries, periodontal disease, bone loss, and craniofacial growth changes. Therefore treatment is a must. According to the studies, it is recommended that orthodontic screening should be started by the age of seven but many orthodontics do not prefer treatment before an eruption of the permanent teeth. Orthodontic treatment deals with the dental replacement and controls and modifies the facial growth.
Prosthodontics is also known as prosthetic dentistry and dental prosthetics and it is a field of dentistry that maintains the oral function by the replacement of missing teeth and structure using the artificial devices. A person who is specialized in this field is concerned with the tooth or tissue damage and partial or complete loss of teeth on the oral function. It largely focuses on the prosthetic replacement. It is divided into fixed prosthodontics and removable prosthodontics. Fixed prosthodontics refers to the treatment in which the devices used or the replacement therapy or the replacement teeth are placed permanently in the oral cavity. Removable prosthodontics refers to the treatment in which the prosthetic devices that are used can be removed from the mouth for cleaning and maintaining.
6. General Dentist
General dentist refers to the dentists who prevents the oral diseases and promotes oral health. A general dentist is known for the primary dental care who treats the minor oral problems and diagnoses the dental problems. Whenever we experience any problem with the oral health we visit a general dentist who further diagnoses the main problem and guides us regarding the problem.
