Unusual Factors Weakening Your Erection
What is Erectile Dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is defined as a man’s inability to maintain or get a proper erection at the time of sexual interaction. It is also known as impotence. It is a common problem among men around the world that severely affects the quality of life of both the patient as well as his partner. To get a normal erection man needs four things, an adequate circulating level of hormones, an adequate level of blood flow to the penis, proper nerves supplying the penis, and sexual stimulation. Many people believe that declining sexual function is an effect of advancing age but it is not the only reason behind impotency but there are many reasons behind it. Some of the reasons are listed below.
1. Smoking and Drinking
Smoking and drinking are said to be the key cause of erectile dysfunction and it adversely affects the reproductive system. If you have smoking and drinking habits then you are more likely to suffer from this problem than those who do not smoke or drink. Smoking leads to many systematic changes such as an imbalance between thromboxane and prostacyclin concentrations, enhanced platelet aggregation, hypercoagulability, etc.. Smoking also decreases pelvic and penile vascular flow that affects penile erection. Alcohol is another leading cause of sexual dysfunction. Alcohol affects the nervous system and damages the link between the brain pituitary gland and the genitals.
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the glucose level or the sugar level in the blood increases. Diabetes is known to be a common cause of erectile dysfunction. Many researchers believe that most of the people who suffer from diabetes will experience some degree of sexual dysfunction in their life. Diabetes can damage the blood supply to the penis and the nerves that control an erection. Also, it has been believed that erectile dysfunction is one of the most neglected side effects of diabetes and most people are unaware of it. Diabetes is also associated with hypertension, stress, dyslipidemia and these health problems are also associated with erectile dysfunction and increase the risk of erectile dysfunction.
Hypertension is also known as high blood pressure and it is a condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is higher. Lifestyle change and medications can lower the blood pressure and decreases the risk of many health problems including erectile dysfunction. Usually, blood pressure is a silent killer and doesn’t have any symptoms but the effect of hypertension can be experienced in overall health. High blood pressure damages the blood vessels and affects the blood flow. Normally, when one feel aroused the body increases the level of the blood flow to tissue inside the penis but damaged blood vessel due to high blood pressure weakens the blood flow and results in the trouble of keeping or maintaining a proper erection.
Studies prove that most of the people who suffer from the depressive disorder are also experiencing reduced sexual interest. Depression is a mental illness that makes you sad and affects how you feel, thinks, and handles daily activities. Depression is associated with many disturbances in the body and affects the functioning of the nervous system. It leads to difficulty in providing relaxation to the muscle tissue of the penis which is necessary to get a proper erection. Also, anxiety is one of the symptoms of depression and anxiety can also be the reason for man’s inability to get an erection.
Obesity is highly associated with high blood pressure, cholesterol level, diabetes, and these health problems are directly linked to the problem of erectile dysfunction. Obesity is a condition in which a person experiences excessive body fat and it is accumulated to such an extent that it throws a negative impact on the health. Obesity leads to the lower than the normal level of testosterone in men and this effect of obesity on testosterone highly contributes to the development of the problem of erectile dysfunction.
