Gatilox DF Eye Drops is prescribed to treat bacterial eye infections, such as Conjunctivitis, and the associated inflammation. It contains two active salts, Gatifloxacin (0.3% w/w) and Difluprednate (0.05% w/w). Gatifloxacin is a Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic, while Difluprednate is a corticosteroid. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd manufactures the medicine, and both salts are FDA-approved for ophthalmic use. The product is produced under GMP quality standards.
Gatifloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial enzymes, such as DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby blocking bacterial growth and replication. Difluprednate helps reduce inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandins responsible for redness, swelling, and irritation. It is commonly used for bacterial Conjunctivitis, post-surgical eye inflammation, and infections accompanied by swelling or discomfort.
Shake the bottle well before use and wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye 2 to 3 times daily or as directed by a doctor, usually for about 7 days. Close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes after applying and avoid touching the dropper tip. In case of overdose, rinse the eye with clean water and seek medical advice. If you miss a dose, apply the next dose as scheduled without doubling.
Common side effects include mild burning, irritation, watering, or temporary blurred vision. Seek medical help if symptoms worsen, persist, or if severe pain, vision changes, or allergic reactions occur. Avoid use if you are allergic to quinolones or steroids, or if you have a viral or fungal eye infection. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. Store below 25°C, away from light and moisture, and discard the bottle 4 weeks after opening.
Gatilox DF is prescribed to treat bacterial eye infections and the associated inflammation and discomfort. The combination of Gatifloxacin and Difluprednate offers dual-action relief by targeting infection and reducing inflammatory symptoms. Some key benefits of Gatilox DF 5ml are:
Being a prescription-only ophthalmic solution, Gatilox DF Eye Drops should be used only as directed by the doctor. However, the following are some key instructions for its proper use:
Currently, Gatilox DF Eye Drops is the only strength available, with no other substitutes. However, you will find effective alternative medications that can suit your medical needs. Always consult a doctor before opting for them.

| Diflumox 5 ml | $7.55/eye drop |
Gatilox 5 ml is generally well-tolerated when taken as prescribed. However, you may still experience some side effects, particularly at the start of treatment as your body adjusts. Some common side effects are:
They are usually mild and go away once your body adjusts to the medication. However, if it continues or worsens, consult a doctor immediately.
Liver Disease
For people with liver disease, no specific dose adjustment is usually required in mild to moderate impairment because the medicine is used topically and has minimal systemic absorption. In cases of severe liver disease, it is still advisable to consult a doctor, even though evidence of liver-related issues is limited.
Kidney Impairment
In patients with kidney impairment, Gatilox DF Eye Drops is generally considered safe. The amount of medicine entering the bloodstream from eye drops is very minimal, so dose adjustments are not needed. However, those with severe kidney problems should remain under medical supervision during treatment.
Pregnant and Breastfeeding women
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use Gatilox DF Eye Drops only if clearly necessary and strictly on a doctor’s advice. It falls under Pregnancy Category C, particularly for Difluprednate, meaning potential risks cannot be ruled out due to limited human data. During breastfeeding, use is generally avoided unless the expected benefit outweighs the possible risk to the infant.
Avoid
Avoid using Gatilox DF if you are allergic to Gatifloxacin, Difluprednate, or related quinolone or steroid medicines. It should not be used in viral or fungal eye infections, in untreated pus-forming infections, in children under one year, or while wearing contact lenses during an active eye infection.
No, Gatilox DF is not habit-forming. It does not cause dependence or addiction, even with regular use for the prescribed period. However, do not stop the drops abruptly without your doctor’s advice, mainly because of the steroid component.
Yes. Gatilox DF Eye Drops may interact if used immediately with other eye drops, as this can dilute or wash out the medicine. To ensure proper absorption and effectiveness, maintain a 5-10-minute gap between eye medications, unless your doctor advises otherwise.
You should wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting contact lenses after using Gatilox DF Eye Drops. However, it’s best to avoid contact lenses entirely during active eye infection or inflammation, as lenses can worsen irritation and delay healing.
Yes, Gatilox DF Eye Drops can increase eye pressure in some people because it contains Difluprednate, a corticosteroid. Prolonged or unsupervised use may raise intraocular pressure, especially in glaucoma-prone patients. Regular eye check-ups are essential if the drops are used for more than a few days.
Yes. Gatilox DF can cause rebound inflammation if it is stopped suddenly. The steroid component, Difluprednate, suppresses inflammation, and abrupt discontinuation may trigger a flare-up of redness, pain, or swelling. Always taper or stop only under a doctor’s guidance.
No, it’s best to avoid driving immediately after using Gatilox DF Eye Drops. The drops may cause temporary blurred vision or stinging. Wait until your vision clears completely before driving or operating machinery.
No, it is better to avoid alcohol while using Gatilox DF eye drops. Although systemic absorption is minimal, alcohol may slow healing and worsen inflammation. Avoiding alcohol during treatment helps support faster recovery and reduces the risk of unwanted side effects.
