What is Soft Drop Liquigel

Soft Drop Liquigel is an ophthalmic lubricant solution. Its composition includes two active ingredients, Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose (0.5% w/v) and Glycerin (0.5% w/v). Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose is a demulcent, and Glycerin is a lubricant, both of which are FDA-approved for treating Dry Eyes by providing lubrication. GMP-certified Ajanta Pharma Ltd manufactures Soft Drops 10 ml.

Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose, or Carmellose Sodium, increases tear viscosity, forming a protective film to retain moisture. Glycerin soothes and lubricates the eye surface. It is mainly used for Dry Eye syndrome, eye irritation from screen exposure, wind, dust, air conditioning (AC), post-eye-surgery dryness, and contact lens–related discomfort.

It is advised to use Soft Drop Liquigel strictly as prescribed by a doctor. General usage guidelines suggest instilling 1 to 2 drops in affected eyes 2-4 times daily. An accidental overdose is unlikely to cause harm. If overdosed, gently wash the eye with clean water and consult a doctor if irritation persists. For a missed dose, administer when remembered unless it is time for the next dose. Common side effects of Soft Drop Liquigel include blurred vision, a sticky sensation, and irritation. These effects are usually mild and temporary; however, consult a doctor if they don’t subside or worsen. For safety, remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. Maintain a gap between different eye medications. Do not use if allergic to any ingredient.

The ideal storage temperature is 25°C, and keep the bottle tightly closed. Keep it away from direct light and moisture, and out of reach of pets and children. Discard the bottle 4 weeks post-opening.

What are the benefits of taking Soft Drop Liquigel

This artificial tear ophthalmic solution can relieve persistent Dry Eyes by providing moisture. Some of the key benefits of Soft Drop Liquigel are listed below:

  • Tear film support: Mimics natural tears to stabilize the tear film and reduce tear evaporation.
  • Environmental protection: Soothes eyes exposed to dust, wind, or AC.
  • Post-operative care: Useful after eye surgery or procedures, such as cataract surgery.

FAQs

What is Soft Drop Liquigel used for?

Soft Drop Liquigel is an artificial tear used to treat Dry Eye syndrome caused by an eye operation, such as cataract surgery, or by environmental factors, such as dust or wind. Carmellose Sodium creates a protective layer on the eye surface, whereas Glycerin soothes the eye, relieving irritation, grittiness, and discomfort.

Is it safe to use Softdrops every day?

Yes, it is considered safe to use artificial tears, such as Softdrops, every day, with 1-2 drops or as directed by the doctor. Long-term use is highly common with no reported serious risks. However, mild effects, such as blurred vision and irritation, can be observed and are usually temporary.

What is the best treatment for Dry Eyes?

The best treatment for Dry Eyes generally depends on the severity and causes of symptoms. Artificial tears, such as Soft Drop Liquigel, are typically used as first-line treatment for mild cases. However, for moderate to severe dryness, prescription eye drops and medical procedures will be needed under a doctor's supervision.

Can Dry Eyes cause blurry vision?

Yes, Dry Eyes can frequently lead to blurry vision as an unstable tear film can disrupt focus by scattering light. Such symptoms can worsen with fatigue or increased screen time. However, artificial tears can offer relief by providing moisture. Consult a doctor before using any eye drops for dryness.

Which eye drops are best for cataracts?

There are no FDA-approved eye drops to reverse or treat cataract formation. Surgery is the only effective treatment to manage cataracts. However, post-surgery, antibiotic ophthalmic solutions, such as Moxifloxacin and Prednisolone, can be recommended to manage inflammation and dryness.

Why do you have to wait 5 minutes between eye drops?

You have to wait 5-10 minutes between different eye drops to prevent washout or dilution of the first medication, ensuring each drop absorbs properly. Instill one eye drop type, wait, then use the next. This increases the effectiveness of combined therapies without affecting efficacy.

Can Dry Eyes be cured?

Dry Eyes usually can’t be fully cured, as they’re often linked to aging, environment, medications, or conditions like Sjogren’s. Soft Drop Liquigel provides symptom relief by lubricating the eye surface, while underlying causes require lifestyle changes, prescription drops, or medical evaluation for long-term management.
